The ‘Purpose movement’ has started, or whatever that means.

In a new attempt to try and secure the #1 debut of his new album next week, Justin Bieber took to YouTube today (Nov. 14) to present the ‘Purpose movement’. Hmmm, okay! But what’s that? Basically, it’s JB trying to get extra streams for his “Purpose” album by uploading to YouTube a series of ‘promo visuals’ for all of the tracks. And all at once!

Remember the choreography-only promo visual Justin premiered in support of the single “Sorry” in late October (yeah, the one where there were a bunch of women twerking to the song)? Well, this “Purpose movement” is more of that. That is, more random visuals, and not proper “music videos”. And yep, don’t expect to see Justin starring in them, but more random people with the God-gifted talent of dancing. Well, okay, there are few exceptions. The ‘promo visual’ for “Mark My Words” for instance – this being one of the 3 songs from “Purpose” Justin wrote inspired by his on-and-off relationship with Selena Gomez. In this ‘promo visual’, possibly Justin’s most personal one from the batch, the Canadian singer does star in it, singing the heartfelt ballad on top of a piano in the middle of the desert. Is this supposed to be a metaphor to the story of the song?

Although I applaud his label for really going all out to try and help Justin get #1, therefore beating One Direction’s “Made in the A.M” in first-week sales, I do find this ‘Purpose movement’ a bit too lazy, in the sense Justin had barely any participation in it. Beyoncé just set the bar really high in terms of ‘visual albums’.
