A tricky question. There is no doubt Adele is big right now, everybody loves her, she sells albums like hotcakes, she’s got an incredible voice, and she has several hits, so why wouldn’t she be a great choice for performer at the 2017 Super Bowl Halftime Show, right?
The Sun broke the news yesterday (Aug. 9) when they reported the NFL is seriously considering and already tempting Adele to be the headliner of next year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show.
“Adele might be saying hello to the 2017 Super Bowl. According to British tabloid newspaper The Sun, the National Football League is eyeing the British soul siren for next year's half-time performance.
A source from the National Football League allegedly told The Sun, “There is nobody bigger in the world than Adele right now and organizers are doing absolutely everything they can to try to persuade her to sign up. She’s sold out every date on her tour, everyone wants a piece of her and they know they can bank on her bringing in the viewers." The insider added, "It’s Adele’s nerves that are the issue — it hasn’t been an easy sell.”
If Super Bowl rumors are true, Adele would join an elite list of music VIPs who have graced the halftime stage including Beyonce, Bruno Mars, Michael Jackson, The Rolling Stones, Prince and Madonna, among others. Performing at one of the most-watched annual sporting events in the world would also one-up her Glastonbury set, which she described on-stage in June as the "best moment of my life."
A rep for Adele offered no comment while reps for the NFL did not immediately respond to Billboard's requests for comment.”
Rep offered no comment? Wouldn’t have been easier to have just said “NO” if the “rumor” weren’t true? Unless...IT IS TRUE!
I’m a bit on the fence on this one. For although I feel curious at what Adele would come up with for a Super Bowl Halftime Show performance, I have the same fear I had with Coldplay this year. There was a big debate on forums when Coldplay was announced as this year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show performers. Nobody denied Coldplay was a superb band, but the issue was many feared their songs and stage presence weren’t Super Bowl Halftime Show material, for a Super Bowl Halftime Show is all about excitement and entertaining songs, and unfortunately many viewed a potential Coldplay halftime performance as “boring”. And that sadly eventually happened, in the view of many. Coldplay’s 2016 Super Bowl Halftime Show was a bit of a let-down, only saved by Beyoncé and Bruno Mars’ part was the most popular opinion.
Lady Gaga was the only part of the Super Bowl that didn't disappoint. Commercials weren't great, Coldplay was boring. Just awful.— Pikasuz (@suzannaxo_) 8 de febrero de 2016
Honestly. For me. Coldplay's Super Bowl halftime show was really boring tbh. Beyoncé and Bruno kinda saved it a littttllllleeeeeee— #RISE (@OMFKatysBoyToy) 8 de febrero de 2016
So the fears come again. Could ballad queen Adele put on an entertaining show for the 2017 Super Bowl Halftime? Despite her immense global fame, could she slip a la Coldplay receiving audience backslash for delivering a well-sung mini-concert but not a fun one?
Is Adele Super Bowl Halftime Show material?
