World Premiere: Zayn Malik - "Pillow Talk" [Single Review / Music Video]

zayn pillow talk

Welcome Zayn Malik. The solo artist.

The former One Direction star released his first solo single “Pillow Talk” today (Jan. 29), which is taken from his upcoming debut solo album titled “Mind of Mine”, due in stores this March 2016 via RCA Records.

“Pillow Talk” premiered on radios early this morning alongside the music video, which made its way onto the VEVO platform.

Zayn’s “Pillow Talk” is a sultry sex-themed song. "Climb on board / We'll go slow in high tempo / Light and dark/ Hold me tight, never mellow", sings Mr. Malik in his first single as a solo artist. Raunchy! Sounds like Zayn is very passionate and dominant when it comes to the baby-making action (go, Gigi!).

The song starts with a few atmospheric synths, and a distorted vocal loop – kind of giving away “Pillow Talk” will be very indie-R&B, almost experimental-sounding – but truth is that the song is a bit of a surprise. It changes genre somewhat as it progresses in time! I mean, the chorus is all about rock and roll – uh-huh, electric guitars included. Really digging the ‘explosion’ in the chorus.

Pillow Talk” is a very eclectic track (if the description above didn't make it clear enough), filled with lots of passionate vocals from Zayn, and I have to say I like it. Zayn took a risk and he succeeded. I’m feeling this. But now… will this do well on radio? With the right promo, maybe. RCA better get to work! The raunchy music video he shot (watch below) may be perfect, but now I need to see Zayn slay “Pillow Talk” live on television. I'm excited and anxious to hear more.
