World Premiere: Sia - "Reaper" [Full Audio + Review]

sia reaper

What a great Thursday this is for Sia fans all over the world.

The Australian singer released today, December 7th, a new song titled “Reaper” as the latest countdown single from her upcoming seventh studio album “This Is Acting” on iTunes. Translation: if you pre-order Sia’s new album at this very moment, you will get a download of “Reaper” for free.

Reaper” is a song that the “Chandelier” chanteuse co-wrote alongside the father of North and Saint, Mr. Kanye West. The song was originally intended for Rihanna but the Barbados girl and/or her record label ultimately decided to take a pass on it, so you will not be hearing RiRi sing “Reaper” in “Anti”. What Sia decided to do? She kept “Reaper” for herself, didn’t sell it to anyone and gave the song the green light – after getting pressured by her manager – for inclusion on “This Is Acting”.

Here’s Sia elaborating on “Reaper” on Rolling Stone Magazine:

“I don’t care about the song. I know in print that will look bad, but what I mean is I’m not emotionally attached to it. I thought it was a fun song. I think it’s a good, fun song, but I didn’t anticipate it being on the record. But my manager really likes it so I put it on for him.”

You can totally hear the Rihanna inspiration in “Reaper”. This sounds like a close cousin to “Four Five Seconds”. Only that “Reaper” is more upbeat folk-pop track.

You came to take me away / So close I was to heaven's gates / But no baby, no baby, not today”, sings Sia in “Reaper”. Apparently someone doesn’t want to fall in love again too soon. She wants to savor the sweet taste of being single for a little while.

By the way, who else can’t have enough of Sia’s goosebumps-worthy vocal inflections? I live for them.

Hit or Miss?
