World Premiere: Coldplay (ft. Beyoncé) - "Hymn For The Weekend" [Full Audio + Review]
Just 3 days to go till the new Coldplay album “A Head Full Of Dreams” comes out worldwide. Excited? What am I asking!? Of course we all are super excited about this new album, which rumor has it will be the last album of Coldplay - at least for a very long while.
Given the frenzy and anticipation surrounding the release of “A Head Full Of Dreams”, Chris Martin and Co. in attempt to calm fans down premiered via BBC Radio 1 today, December 1st, a new song from the album. And not just any track from it. They chose to premiere the most-anticipated song from “A Head Full Of Dreams”, the collaboration with Beyoncé “Hymn For The Weekend” (listen below).
I think the best description for this song is: “Coldplay’s personal take on club music”. This dreamy rock song hears Chris Martin thanking Beyoncé big time for having lifted him up when he was at a low point in his life with her love (“When I was down / When I was hurt / You came to lift me up…”). And now he says he likes how love is making him feel (“Life is a drink, and love's a drug / Got me feeling drunk and high”). So basically Chris is saying here that being in love is like feeling drunk and high. Interesting point of view…So positive!
In the song there was obviously room for a female singer and given Beyoncé is a close friend of Chris’, no doubt he made the most perfect choice for the featured artist on “Hymn For The Weekend”, and no doubt Beyoncé must’ve given him an easy yes.
The only thing that I’m sad about this song is that Beyoncé didn’t get a solo verse. Her participation is limited to ad-libs, and a subtle intro and outro. But anyways, this ‘party’ song of Coldplay’s is a total breath of fresh air for the fans of the band (this is a new theme for them!), and “Hymn For The Weekend” is totally the most ‘different’ collaboration Beyoncé’s ever recorded in her career.
