Jazz duo Lady Gaga & Tony Bennett and pop diva Mariah Carey performed on NBC's 82nd annual tree lightning special “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” on Wednesday night (Dec. 3) in NYC. Both performances were LIVE although Mariah’s was supposed to be pre-taped. Mariah’s pre-taping was scheduled to happen at the previous day’s night but Mariah arrived at the site three hours late, making NBC execs furious and getting told to “go home”. However, realizing Mariah equals "Christmas" (in the USA) they asked her to comeback last night for a LIVE performance.

She was supposed to do a pre-taping because 1) hers was the main performance of the special and 2) since there was going to be lot of things happening on stage (meaning the chances of errors were high), the rumours of her vocals not being what they were and the performance having to have the best camera angles possible, a pre-taping was just required. In the end, Mariah did it live and it was a disaster. First, the camera angles were basic, second, nothing exciting occurred on stage (cancelled?), and third, Mariah sounded terrible; pitchy and winded. Poor thing! She was STRUGGLING. What she sang? “All I Want For Christmas Is You” of course.

On the contrary, Lady Gaga and ol’ Tony Bennett delivered incredible live performances of "Winter Wonderland" and the "Cheek to Cheek" track "It Don't Mean a Thing”.

The moral of this year’s “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” TV special? If you’re going to include Mariah in your line-up, make her pre-tape.
