Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga Make "Nature Boy" Their Own: Listen

lady gaga and tony nature boy

Pure magic! Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga takes us to heaven once again with another cut from their forthcoming joint jazz album “Cheek to Cheek”, in stores September 23. The last iTunes countdown single has just been released and it’s the song “Nature Boy”.

Composed by Eden Ahbez in 1941, Nat King Cole was the first to ever record it in 1947. You may have heard “Nature Boy” in 2001's “Moulin Rouge” but trying to make a comparison in their favour, Lady Gaga recently tweeted that her version with Tony is just "spectacular”. The flute solo you hear in the song is performed by multi-reedist Paul Horn, who unfortunately passed away this summer and couldn't tape the “Cheek to Cheek” special for PBS.

“Spectacular” indeed. Tony is a jazz legend but I would’ve preferred if Gaga had done it solo on “Nature Boy”. Her vocals sound so ethereal and peaceful in this song that I feel Tony’s elder masculine voice sort of kills the vibe a bit. Do you agree? It's a great record anyway! Oh, and let's give it up to Paul Horn’s flute solo too. Amazing!
