Ryan Tedder Confirms Working with One Direction, Denies Harry Styles Band Departure
One Republic's leader and hitmaking producer Ryan Tedder recently granted an interview to The Guardian. In the brief conversation, Ryan (34) talks of the future re-release of OneRepublic's latest album 'Native' (including the brand new single 'Love Runs Out'), his thoughts on Beyoncé's alleged songwriting scams, but most importantly Tedder revealed unexpected news about him sharing studio time with One Direction!
TG: You've been writing with Harry Styles recently, haven't you?
Ryan: [Silence] Is that the rumour?
TG: That's the rumour.
Ryan: That's an interesting rumour. I don't know if I can confirm or deny that, but what I will say is that I did hang out with One Direction in London. It sounds completely generic to say, but I'm always impressed or extremely happy when I end up in the same room with a band who are at the stage of nuclear explosion in their career and they're so normal it almost turns you off. Like, "How are you not more messed up right now? I'm looking for syringes, where are they?" [Suddenly] Yes, we did do something is the truth. I can't say what it's for, though.
TG: When do you think Harry will leave One Direction?
Ryan: Oh my God, I have no idea. I've never had any conversations with him or any of them regarding that.
Interesting. It seems the journalist's first question about Ryan and Harry writing together wanted to the lead the way to a response where Ryan would confirm Harry is working on solo material for a future debut album (which he later denies), but the whole issue evolves later with Ryan saying he was actually working on something with the whole of One Direction while in London recently.
