Rihanna's Songwriter Ester Dean Unveils "Miss Ester Dean" EP [Stream]

miss ester dean ep

Rude Boy” writer Ester Dean (who can’t forget the iconic “come on rude boy, is you big enough?" line) is stepping into the spotlight again. She's been trying to make it solo in the music industry for a while now (she’s released a couple of one-off singles, and she's even signed to Interscope Records) Oklahoma's Ester's yet to bless us with a full-length debut album, which I’m totally sure would have at least a handful of bangin’, catchy tracks. While that arrives, Ester’s not forgetting she’s got fans out there (I see 147,000 followers on Twitter) and she’s surprised us today (yes I’m a fan, I like all of the songs she's written and her 2009 single "Drop It Low" was hot) with the online premiere of EP called “Miss Ester Dean”. No prior warning given as that’s now the trend of the "cool" guys in the music biz.

6 songs make up “Miss Ester Dean” and they are mix of ballads, mid-tempos and ratchet upbeat anthems. Ester is not shy to use a little foul language in her new songs but she also found time for some meaningful, well-written and relatable lyrics. My favourite song from the EP? Right now it’s “Jealous”. Nick Jonas eat your heart out, Ester's “Jealous” just stole from you the best jealousy-themed song title.

Don't let it all be urban

Although I’m actually enjoying this EP (which word has it will hit iTunes in the next few days), I would love to hear Ester do something a little more pop too. She’s given Rihanna pop tracks, and they’ve all been amazing, so I know deep inside she’s a got a little pop girl hiding, so why not serving us with a couple of radio-friendly songs too? If that debut Insterscope album of hers ever sees the light of day (which after this EP is stronger than ever to become reality), I hope she includes one or two bubblegum songs.
