Reba McEntire Releases Extremely Radio-Friendly Single "Going Out Like That": Listen

reba going out like that cover

Reba McEntire will release her 27th studio album later in 2015 but the first single is already here. And let met just tell you: it's a huge surprise.

Reba is commonly linked to ‘real’ country music, real country productions, real country feel, and all in all; recording songs that will only get played on Country radios. So imagine my huge surprised face when hearing her new single “Going Out Like That” for the first time. Written by Rhett Akins, Ben Hayslip, Jason Sellers and produced by Tony Brown, “Going Out Like That”, the lead single from Reba’s 27th LP – allegedly titled “Icon”,– is a bona-fide future smash hit and a single that, with the right persuasion and promo campaign, Top 40 radios may be willing to give airplay. It's still country music, but “Going Out Like That” sounds and feels like Reba’s first pop crossover IMO. The feisty energy in the production, the catchiness of the chorus, it all feeds this thought of mine.

And it’s not just the production or the catchiness what I like about Reba’s new song, the message is great as well. I may be incapable to relate to it, for obvious reasons, but I'm sure many will. “Going Out Like That” is a female empowerment song. It’s about surviving (and thriving in) heartbreak instead of "sitting home crying”. Don’t let the tears get the best of you, girls! That jerk probably didn't deserve you!

I'm really feeling Reba’s way of dealing with heartbreak. “If she was hurtin' well she must have forgot/ Cuz she's smiling while she's throwing back shots”, Ms. McEntire sings in the chorus of her rockin' new song. Booze it up!
