New Music: Rihanna & Chris Brown - "Put It Up" [Full Audio]

What do we have here in this beautiful Sunday morning? A brand new Rihanna and Chris Brown collaboration titled “Put It Up”. You know. Casual.

Oh, sorry about that, please remove the “brand new” tag, my mistake, because this track was actually recorded circa the “Nobody’s Business” era. Remember? Rihanna had that song in her 2012 album “Unapologetic”. Around that time, a second collaboration was recorded, this song “Put It Up”, that was intended to be featured on Chris Brown’s next album, at the time thought to be called “Carpe Diem”, which had to come out in 2013 but that after Chris’s legal troubles, the project, renamed “X”, was pushed back until its final release date of September 2014. However, when “X” arrived, there was no sight of “Put It Up”. What happened? Well, in the days of “Unapologetic”, Rihanna still kind of liked Chris, yeah she had ‘forgiven’ him for what he did to her, and they were kind of trying to make things up and even sort of reconcile, but then something happened and things turned ugly again. So when it was time to drop “X”, Rihanna prohibited Chris to use the song, and that was when “Put It Up” was thrown into “the vault”, until today (April 19), the LA Leakers somehow obtained a copy of the song and of course, decided to leak it to the world.

Good it was ‘scrapped’?

Listen. I may not like Chris after what he did to RiRi, but “Nobody’s Business” was a cool song. “Put It Up”, however, is just a borefest. I honestly wouldn’t have even included it as bonus track on “X”. It’s just so forgettable and there’s nothing special about it. The Chorus 2 is by far the best part of the song (when Chris sings “put it up right there” like a thousand times) but it isn’t that hot anyway. I just feel like the song goes on and on and on and there is no climax. Is there anything positive about it? Well, although I’m not especially happy about it, the truth is that Rihanna and Breezy’s vocals do work out well together.

Hit or Miss?
