New Music: Nickelback - "Edge of a Revolution" [Premiere]

Avril Lavigne’s rocker husband Chad Kroeger is back in action. It looks like working in Avril's latest album has made him recuperate the appetite for music. For he’s finally ended Nickelback’s three-year hiatus and announced the release of the Canadian rock band's eighth studio album for the last quarter of 2014 via Republic Records. The yet-to-be-named project is said to shock hardcore Nickelback’s fans as it will see a departure from the band’s usual sound. And that departure can already be heard in the album's first single, "Edge of a Revolution" - which premiered via iHeartRadio on Monday, August 18th.

"Edge of a Revolution" single review

So Nickelback is going Green Day in their 8th LP. "Edge of a Revolution" is definitely a change for the Chad Kroeger-led band, as the new single is more of a political protest song. Totally uncharted territory for Nickelback til today. "Edge of a Revolution" is to Nickelback what "American Idiot" was to Green Day in 2004. "Edge of a Revolution" is like an angry rock them, with loud chants in the chorus, and lyrics talking about what’s wrong with society today and how it’s everything politics’ fault. Not trying to disrespect Chad or Nickelback at all, but I do find it a bit awkward to be hearing a Canadian band raging about the NSA or the CIA. Are they reppin’ for the States now?
