New Music: Jennifer Hudson - "Dangerous" [Full / Review]

Jennifer Hudson is following a dangerous path, just like the title of her newest song. The Grammy and Oscar winner just premiered on her YouTube page the audio of a brand new track lifted from her upcoming third studio album "JHUD", due in stores on September 23rd via RCA Records, and it sounds so boring and dated. I know Jennifer wants to bring ‘retro’ back in her new album, and although her vocals are beast in the newly-premiered song “Dangerous”, the whole vibe of it just isn’t connecting with me. I get the retro sound, and Jennifer seems to have a lot of fun with it, but this is the ‘dangerous path’ I was talking about earlier. Releasing this kind of music right now is just plain suicide. I don’t know what RCA was thinking when they gave Jennifer the green light to record this type of album. But apparently "JHUD" won’t entirely be retro music, as the lead single “Walk It Out” – produced by Timberland – is a little bit more modern-sounding, and very Rhythmic radio-tailored. Unfortunately for Jennifer, though, the single is flopping everywhere. Hopefully she still has one or two modern-sounding songs on "JHUD" because otherwise the album is already dead. Radio won't support the retro songs, and I know that for fact.

“Dangerous” song review

Over 4 minutes long, a retro production, plenty of Jennifer’s ‘wow’ vocals, but overall "Dangerous" is a song that doesn't go anywhere. Very average album track.

In the lyrics, J-Hud sings about being a woman who likes danger and playing with a new boy every now and then. She's vile and she's loving it.
