And, to me, “Lonely Tonight” sounds more than just a mere “iTunes countdown single”. Release this as an official single in the future, Blake, and you'll have a guaranteed #1 country smash.
“Lonely Tonight” is a duet with Tennessee's country singer Ashley Monroe, it’s part of the “Bringing Back the Sunshine” album (in stores on September 30th via Warner Bros. Nashville), and you can buy right now on iTunes for just $1.29, and please believe when I say the song is worth the money.
“We don't have to be lonely tonight / Need you, want you, I'm right here”, sings Blake and Ashley in unison in the chorus of their new collaboration.
“Lonely Tonight" is a romantic country mid-tempo about two former lovers wanting to have one more "one last time". They happen to be alone at their homes at the same time, and instead of getting bored doing nothing, Blake makes the first move and calls Ashley. And considering they still have feelings for each other, they sort of decide to become “friends with benefits”. That wouldn’t hurt nobody, would it?. “I can be there in five”, says Blake, and yes, he will be there in five.
