New Music: Ariana Grande - "Last Christmas"
Ariana Grande is to unveil a new Christmas song every Tuesday until the release of a holiday-themed EP. The first offering was released on iTunes early this morning (Nov. 19) and it's an updated version of Wham!'s 1984 classic "Last Christmas". Ariana has said there will be covers but originals too in her "new music every week" campaign.
No doubt her manager Scooter Braun is behind this. He plotted the "#MusicMondays" series for Justin Bieber, and in view of the success in digital sales, he's now making it happen for Ariana Grande. But she's not Bieber, though. Contrary to the Canadian singer's trend of rocketing to the top of iTunes, ten hours after the release of "Last Christmas" (as of this post), Ariana's song had only reached #29.
As for the song itself, it's really cute and christmassy, but there's something about the whole production, and mixing that sounds "rush" to me.
