New Music: Alicia Keys - 'New Day'
R&B star Alicia Keys has dropped a brand new track called "New Day" online today (June 28) for all fans to listen for free via SoundCloud...Check out above! The drum-heavy number - obviously produced by AK's hubby Swizz Beatz - is NOT, I repeat is NOT, the first single from Alicia's upcoming fifth studio album. The 31-year-old New Yorker made it very clear when she wrote 'Here's a first taste of new music…It's a "New Day"!!! Let's fly!' on her Facebook page. 'Taste' is the key word here, y'all.
Well, oh, well. I'm on the fence with this one. I think we all will agree Swizz Beatz should NOT be producing songs for Alicia. He's messing with her usual flawlessness! "New Day" ain't bad, but it's not up to AK's standards of quality. I mean, the vocals are hot, and the chorus is semi-fierce, but as a whole, "New Day" would just be an OK album track IMO, but never a single. Radios would boycott it.
