Yesterday (March 1) Meghan Trainor used her social media accounts to reveal the official cover art of her upcoming new single “No” to fans and to post a 10-second preview of the song (for those fans too impatient to hear new Meghan Trainor music) as well.

As you must already know, “No” is the lead single from Meghan’s second studio album - the follow-up to her 2015 platinum-certified debut - whose title and release date are yet a mystery. What is not a mystery anymore, though, is that “No” will be officially released on iTunes this Friday, March 4th.

THE COVER IS…FIERCE

The official artwork for “No” is a photograph with a black background where you can see Meghan Trainor looking straight to the camera sideways, flaunting her new dark red hair, and wearing a shiny green dress. The title of the song is written on the left in white and with a sort of a “scratch” all over the “O” letter of “No” (MØ, her impact!)

The first word that came out of my mouth after seeing the “No” cover was “fierce”. The second thing I thought was: “this gives me serious old Kelly Clarkson vibes”. The photo I like, it’s very fierce indeed, but I personally don’t love the font they used, and I also don’t like the fact that artists think that because you use that scratch effect on letters, it will make you look “edgy”. It’s a bit “trying too hard” for me. But whatever…it’s truly the song that will be important here.

THE SNIPPET…LEAVES ME WANTING MORE

With respect to the snippet, which Meghan posted on Snapchat last night, it appears to me that what we hear is the intro of “No”. For the snippet is very ballad-y, acoustic-y, and acapella-y, where Meghan sings: “It's so sweet how you let your friends encourage you / To try and talk to me”.

I’m sure this has to be the intro. The rest of the song has to be uptempo. I mean, “No” is supposed to be a boy-bashing song, so it has to be upbeat.

Anticipating? Loving the cover?
