Kelly Clarkson Covers Miley’s “Wrecking Ball” at Indiana Show: Better Than The Original?

kelly clarkson wrecking ball cover

It is one of the most covered songs in history (might be exaggerating a bit but whatever…) yet Kelly Clarkson hadn’t covered it yet… until last night, July 30th, in Indiana. I’m talking about Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball”, whose nakedness-filled music video a lot of us can’t get off our minds yet.

Kelly took her “Piece by Piece Tour" to the Klipsch Music Center in Noblesville, Indiana on Thursday night and there she performed “Wrecking Ball” during the ‘fan request’ section of the concert. Although this wasn’t Kelly’s first cover of a Miley Cyrus song, she hasn’t covered her a lot throughout her career. The only song of Miley’s she’s performed in the past was “The Climb” a few years ago.

Remember there allegedly was some sort of a feud between Miley and Kelly after the 2013 MTV VMAs because allegedly Kelly called Miley a “pitchy stripper” for her racy performance with Robin Thicke? But when asked about it, Kelly denied she was referring to Miley… hmmm ok. Whatever that was, feud or not, it seems there’s no animosity towards Miley anymore because last night Ms. Clarkson covered “Wrecking Ball” before 18,000 fans in Indiana.

For this cover Kelly really respected the original melody and arrangement, and although nothing was ‘new’ in this aspect, vocally she did add a new layer of amazingness that evidently Miley isn’t capable of. It was incredible: it felt like Kelly was feeling and really connecting to the song more than Miley did. ONLY THE KWEEN!
