I knew Janelle Monáe was going to come hard this new era, but I was expecting it to be this hard. Damn, girl. You’re on fire!

Miss Monaé premiered two new songs today from her forthcoming third studio album “Dirty Computer”, which will be arriving in stores on April 27th. The new songs are “Make Me Feel”, which is the official first single, and “Django Jane”, a buzz single/countdown single. The two songs are very opposite in sound. “Make Me Feel” is a straight-up funky, Motown-esque banger, and “Django Jane” is a pure urban, knock-hard song where Janelle shows off her amazing rapping and lyricist abilities.

From the official statement:

““Make Me Feel”, directed by Alan Ferguson, captures the spirited, celebratory voice of Monáe as she affectionately nods to the ripe sounds surrounding the 1980’s music and dance revolution. Delivering electric vocals, pop hooks and confident, female-driven lyrics, Monáe brings the song to life in a vibrantly colored video highlighted by provocative silhouettes moving across the screen. “Django Jane” underscores Monáe’s ability to unleash her biting, unapologetic flow in a song that embraces contradictions as part of the beauty of individuality. The video was directed by Andrew Donoho and Chuck Lightning with additional vagina monologue footage directed by Lacey Duke. The song is a powerful black girl magic womanifesto that celebrates the strength of black women and black culture while addressing the trials and tribulations of identity in the 21st Century. Both videos are streaming now on Monáe’s YouTube channel.”

My favorite song of the two has to be “Make Me Feel”, the lead single. Although I don’t know if I love the song or the music video better. It’s very hard to choose! What a stunner music video, right? I’m just living for all the looks that Janelle serves in it. And I’m loving the colorful theme too. Radio better support this or someone will be in terrible danger. I've warned you! But “Django Jane” is a good track as well. The message here is much deeper and much personal which makes me connect with this song in a different way. Bravo and thank you to Janelle for sharing and teaching us so much about her struggles and the women cause with “Django Jane”.
