Jamie Foxx's Irrelevancy In Music Continues With Chris Brown-Assisted "You Changed Me": Listen

jamie foxx you changed me cover

I have yet to mentally “buy" Jamie Foxx as a singer. He's a terrific actor (“Django Unchained”, "Ray Charles", hello?) but a singer? I don't know no. He ain't got a bad voice, but I just don't see any uniqueness in it for JF to be allowed the opportunity to record albums (but he’s got four already). Anyhow, RCA Records (Jamie’s been part of the Sony family since 2005) has green-lighted the commencement of a new Jamie Foxx musical era which in common language means; new album is in sight – it would be his first since 2005’s “Best Night of My Life”.

The first single from the Oscar winner's upcoming yet-untitled fifth studio album is the Chris Brown-assisted "You Changed Me", which the two co-wrote in collaboration with Matthew Samuels and Anderson Hernandez. The R&B song premiered on VEVO yesterday (March 12) but it was made available on iTunes only today.

Used to be the kind of n*gga who never wanna settle down / You changed me baby”, sings Jamie in the chorus of his new single. "You Changed Me" hears an "urban" artist saying positive things about a female for once, and not just praise her for her big booty, how loose she is, or how good she is at sex. Jamie and Chris sing about a lady who completely changed their promiscuous ways, and turned them into men of real value and persons who wanted to have sensible lives with a caring other half.

The theme of the song is what I like about "You Changed Me". Finally a “classy” song amid a river of urban songs with no real meaning but deplorable messages. This doesn’t change my mind that I don’t “buy” Jamie Foxx as a singer. I may like what "You Changed Me" has to “say” but overall it might as well be labelled as a “forgettable” single (I don’t see it having a good run on the charts nor radio) and the Chris Brown feature is just so annoying. What the hell does he has to be on every song now? He's like the new Nicki Minaj of collaborations.

Hit or Miss?
