J. Cole – ‘Lights Please’ [Music Video]

‘Lights Please’

It’s been over half a decade since the release of the audio but J. Cole has finally delivered the music video for his self-produced track ‘Lights Please’. The record originally appeared on Cole’s ‘The Warm Up’ mixtape and was placed on his debut album ‘The Sideline Story’ released back in 2011.

Not only is ‘Lights Please’ the first song that Cole played for his then-manager Mark Pitts, but it’s also the record that got him on Jay Z’s radar, which led to a meeting being set up and then eventually a deal with Roc Nation. The music video was first premiered on MTV Jams after a special dedicated to Cole in celebration of the five year anniversary of ‘The Warm Up’.

Along with the ‘Lights Please’ visual, J. Cole penned a lengthy letter to fans and announced the second annual ‘Dollar & A Dream’ tour. The 6-city trek starts off on July 3rd in London and will find the North Carolina emcee visiting New York, Miami, Chicago, and Raleigh before wrapping up in Los Angeles on July 23rd. As for the letter, it can be read in full over on Cole’s Dreamville website.

Directed by BB Gun, the 'Lights Please' music video was shot back in 2008. The reason it never came out is because Cole felt the visual didn't "reach the level of greatness" as his other videos at that time. Hit play and enjoy below (starts at 3:53). Still dope five years later.
