Is This Messy Commercial Supposed To Convince Anyone To Buy Ariana Grande’s New Perfume “Ari”? [Watch]

Aren’t commercials for new fragrances suppose to try to inspire possible buyers to obtain the product by means of explaining in a coherent way the significance of the name, and moreover, by means of a lead star trying to “sell” the scent and the feelings the perfume in question evokes in one? Well, reality is that I don’t see any of this in the commercial Ariana Grande premiered over the weekend via her official YouTube channel. This commercial allegedly ‘promotes’ the debut fragrance by the Florida chanteuse named just “Ari”.

In this so-called “commercial” we can see a ‘superstar of the moment’ Ariana Grande getting on a cab in a New York City from the 1950’s. Ariana gets on the vehicle wearing a pink dress, and accompanied by her adorable dog Toulouse. The two are headed for 23rd and Broadway. The cab driver recognizes the popular singer and treats Ariana by Ariana Grande but she begs him to call her simply “Ari”. Is this really their best effort to explain the name of the fragrance? Oh my.

On their way to their destination, the cab driver, who is now addressing Ariana casually, implores the ‘diva’ to sing to him a few seconds of something. Ari agrees and sings a snippet of her latest single “Focus”. Once at their destination point, what seems to be a Broadway theater, Ariana sprays a bit of her perfume all over her body, but a blinding flash from one of the many paparazzi that are waiting for her outside ruins Ariana’s mood, to what she apparently retaliates by commanding the cab driver to hit the gas and get the hell away from there.

Truth is that I don’t only not understand Ariana’s “commercial”, but she fails to explain me the perfume name, she fails to sell me its essence, and she fails to convey the feelings its perfume evokes too. What I did get very clearly from this commercial was that Ariana doesn’t mind breaking a binding agreement like attending a red carpet. Basically she said with this commercial that since she is a diva, she can do whatever she wants. Skipping an event everyone is waiting for her at? Why not?.

This embarrassing commercial makes me wonder, who is the target audience for this perfume? Girls below 10 years of age? Because I don’t really think that young people above this age will want to buy this fragrance based on this commercial. It’d be contrary. I wouldn’t want my parents to get me this perfume because then everyone in the school would laugh at me for buying “the perfume from that stupid TV ad”.

Will you be rushing to your nearby perfume store?
