Halsey Performs New Single “Colors” On ‘Jimmy Fallon’: Watch Now
Halsey has a new single from her critically-acclaimed debut album “Badlands” out, “Colors”, and she performed it for the first time ever on television last night, Feb. 10, on “The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon” on NBC.
“Colors”, by the way, is the official follow-up to “New Americana”, and the third single overall from “Badlands”. About time Halsey/Capitol picked a new single from “Badlands”? You bet! Although I'm a super fan of “New Americana”, the tea has to served; the song just wasn’t going anywhere. It peaked at #60 on the Billboard Hot 100 and at #25 on pop radio. “New Americana” simply was never gonna be able to improve those chartings. Why? Not because the song was bad, but because of the word “marijuana” that Halsey sang in the chorus. Radio in the US just didn’t support it the way a fantastic and revolutionary song like “New Americana” is deserved – and evidently this lack of radio embracing limited the peaking the song could achieve on the Hot 100. Halsey and Capitol Records kept trying but ultimately everything failed…so a new single had to be picked. “Colors” is a good choice because the song is a) pure Halsey, in the sense it was conceived from her own amazing imagination/world – and b) because it’s more radio-friendly lyrics-wise than “New Americana”. The song, for those that haven’t heard it yet, hears Halsey singing about her favorite color in the world, the color blue.
Halsey’s performance yesterday on ‘Fallon Tonight’ was super solid. But I’m preoccupied it may have looked a tad boring. What do you think? Maybe “Colors” is a song that is meant to be heard in its studio version and with your headphones on or while in the car....and not seeing it being performed by Halsey live. But hey! The song is pretty. Don’t hate on me. It’s just a feeling I’m getting.
So, to sum up, fingers crossed radios do support this new single and WO-AH! at Halsey for looking super fierce last night. The outfit was hot stuff. But I do wish her hair would grow faster. I don’t like that boy hair on her.
