Almost two months after the first and only televised performance of “Down” to date (the one on “GMA”), Fifth Harmony finally performed a follow-up last night (July 24) on NBC’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon”. So in the end we were wrong in thinking 5H were already over “Down” due to its “flopness”. They still have faith for the song. It’s just that apparently they were taking their time (two months) in planning out a better strategy to make it a real hit – and that plan potentially was avoiding a clash with Camila Cabello’s “Crying In The Club” promo. For while the Cuban-American was promoting her Sia-written song everywhere on radio and TV, Fifth Harmony decided to step back and wait out for their time – which is now.

The girls’ last night “Down” performance was different but exceptional. This time there was no choreography, no strutting around the stage, but just fixed stood-up positions with mic stands. This time Fifth Harmony opted to focus on the vocals rather than then paraphernalia of the choreography. All four girls served hot to death vocals, and also hot to death harmonies. They gave “Down” a new arrangement and it was a total mesmerizing experience to witness. Did I miss the choreography? Yes, of course. My hands and hips were shaking demanding to do the choreography but since the girls didn’t do it, I didn’t either (I’m that loyal). But this performance was great on its own. It was different, it was entertaining nonetheless, the girls looked super pretty, and most importantly they sounded incredible. I do hope the next TV performances, if there are, see a bring-back of the choreography.

At “Jimmy Fallon” last night, Fifth Harmony also took the opportunity to confirm the rumors that their upcoming third studio album will be released on August 25th (in just one month!!!) and that it will be self-titled (I know for a fact Camila won’t like this title. If I were her I’d be pissed too. It’s almost a shady move from the 5H girls, with them in a way saying: “this is us for real, now that Camila is gone”.) But hey, I live for the drama. Let’s what the true “Fifth Harmony” sounds like. So far the “audience” is not impressed, though. “Down”, which I do like, isn’t the hit everybody in the business expected. Not even this “Fallon” performance has made it, as of this post, come back on the Top 100 of iTunes. The rest of the songs better be one trillion times better then. If not, I can already imagine Camila evilly laughing from her bedroom scrolling down the charts and seeing 5H flop…
