Breaking: Taylor Swift Announces “1989” Will Be Up For Stream on Apple Music (Bye Bye, TIDAL)
And just like that Taylor Swift annihilates Jay-Z’s TIDAL.
The country/pop singer confirmed via a series of three tweets moments ago that her latest platinum album “1989” will be up for stream on Apple Music (the brand new music streaming service of the Tim Cook-run company that will launch on June 30). This will mean that Spotify won’t have “1989”, TIDAL won’t have “1989” and that Apple Music WILL have “1989” on its catalog. Who wins? Apple, of course. If you have Tay-Tay by your side, you will destroy your competition. A bit too dramatic? I don’t think so. Taylor Swift has become so incredibly popular, successful and powerful that she may as well be the decisive player when it comes on who wins the battle, and in this case the music streaming battle.
Read what the “Bad Blood” star had to say on Twitter earlier this Thursday (June 25):
After the events of this week, I've decided to put 1989 on Apple Music...and happily so.

>In case you're wondering if this is some exclusive deal like you've seen Apple do with other artists, it's not.

>This is simply the first time it's felt right in my gut to stream my album. Thank you, Apple, for your change of heart.

If you can remember, you know Taylor posted an open letter to Apple last week where she vented her feelings of disappointment towards the unfair decision by the public company to not pay artists a dime in royalties during the three-month trial period every new user of Apple Music get to have. And that that would be the reason she wouldn’t put “1989” for streaming there.
Shockingly (like who knew Taylor had so much power! And I mean power to change the business strategy of APPLE!), a day after, an Apple representative responded to Taylor’s open letter by saying that the company totally understood her point of view and that she was right. Long story short, they are going to pay artists money during the trial period.
Now, a few days later, Taylor has made the decision to include “1989” on Apple Music (launches in 5 days in the US first) following the company’s agreement to “her” terms.
Does it all look a bit strange to you? Rumor in the Internet has it that this was all a publicity stunt/deal between Apple and Taylor Swift to a) promote Apple Music and b) her getting more money for each stream “1989” gets to the detriment of other hard-working artists.
