The Weeknd not only announced his new album title and release date last night (Sept. 21), but he also dropped the first single! - only a few hours later. The exclusive world premiere happened on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show on Wednesday night, and immediately after, the song was released on iTunes and Spotify.
“Starboy”, that’s the name of the new The Weeknd single and yeah it’s the album’s title track, was produced by the legendary Daft Punk. This is the Canadian singer’s first collaboration ever with the French production duo.
On “Starboy”, The Weeknd boasts about his superstar status, the money he has at the bank, and his ability to easily be with multiple women at the same time. “Look what you’ve done / I’m a motherfu**ing Starboy”, he sings on the chorus of his new single over a flawless, infectious and groovy Daft Punk electronic production.
Highlights and other thoughts:
- Vocals in this are beast. But that you already knew. It’s The Weeknd!
- The Weeknd sounds SO good with the Daft Punk beats that I hope there are more tracks with them on the new album.
- This will be massive on streaming.
- A more “commercial” sound than the stuff on TW’s last album but I don’t mind. His DNA is all over this new music and that’s what matters the most.
- Can't stop bopping!
