World Premiere: The Vamps - "Wake Up" [Full Audio]

the vamps wake up cover

British pop band The Vamps premiered today (Oct. 2) their brand new single “Wake Up”. This is the official first offering from the Brad Simpson-led band’s forthcoming sophomore studio album (follow-up to 2014’s “Meet The Vamps”), due in stores later this year via Virgin EMI/Mercury.

I like “Wake Up”, but I don’t think I like it as much as “Last Night” (the first single from their last album). I mean, it’s definitely radio-friendly, quite “instant” but it lacks that “I’m a bona-fide pop hit, what’s up?” confidence “Last Night” had, if you know what I mean. The Vamps have major potential, but they really needed to deliver something even greater than "Last Night" and unfortunately I'm feeling is a bit of a step back (still, the song is good, but not their best ever). Best things about this new The Vamps single are: the chorus, of course, and that synth-based beat bit that is played throughout the song. That’s quite infectious, and I keep waiting for it to come up on the song while listening.

I know sometimes we'll be afraid / But no more playing safe, my dear /I'm here / So wake up”, sings Brad in the chorus of “Wake Up”. He tells the girl he fancies to stop playing around. She must follow her heart and instincts and act on this love she’s feeling for him for once and for all.

Hit or Miss?

Official BBC Radio 1 Stream: "Wake Up" starts at 4:18 minute mark (alternative).
