World Premiere: Shawn Mendes - "Three Empty Words" [Full Audio + Review]

shawn mendes three empty words

Shawn Mendes’ second countdown single from his upcoming new studio album “Illuminate” (September 23) is here. “Three Empty Words” is available now for streaming on Spotify and it will be up for purchase on iTunes starting tomorrow (July 29). Labeled as one of Shawn’s “favorites” from his sophomore LP, “Three Empty Words” is an acoustic, guitar-driven ballad about heartbreak. “And I know it's gonna hurt / But darling I'll go first / I won't keep on saying those three empty words”, sings Canadian boy Shawn in the chorus of his new “Illuminate” track. Here he tells the story of how difficult it’s been breaking up with his long-time girlfriend but in the end the both knew they weren’t meant for each other. So it’s better, Shawn says, to stop saying “empty” I love yous because that’s going to make everything worse. Move on and look to the future is what they must do.

No wonder why “Three Empty Words” is one of Shawn’s favorites from “Illuminate”. This is so good from the first to the last second. I live for the singing and lyrics in this one. Shawn Mendes has that magic touch when it comes to heartbreak acoustic ballads.
