World Premiere: Katy Perry - "Rise" [Full Audio + Review]

katy perry rise

I almost had a little heart attack when I saw this new Katy Perry song “Rise” up on iTunes.

Let’s do some clarification first: This is NOT the lead single from Katy’s much-anticipated fifth studio album - a set that is definitely coming later this year. It is not. It is just an appetizer, and an appetizer with a very concrete message and purpose.

Produced by Max Martin, and released by surprise via Apple Music today, July 15th, “Rise” is a big and serious ballad, which gets synth-pop-ready in the chorus but remains very serious, written by Katy Kat with the athletes of the 2016 Rio Olympic Game in mind.

“This is a song that’s been brewing inside me for years, that has finally come to the surface. I was inspired to finish it now, rather than save it for my next album, because now more than ever, there is a need for our world to unite … I know that together we can rise above the fear – in our country, and around the world. I can’t think of a better example than the Olympic athletes, as they gather in Rio with their strength and fearlessness, to remind us how we ALL can come together, with the resolve to be the best we can be. I hope this song can inspire us to heal, unite, and rise together.”

There is a need for our world to unite”, said Katy in her official statement. She also wants “Rise” to help heal the current problems the American society is facing, such as the policy brutality against the black community issue.

NBC announced today too that they're officially picking up Katy’s “Rise” to be the “anthem music” of their coverage of this year’s Olympic Games - which kick off next month.
