KATY PERRY chained to the rhythm artwork

The legendary Katy Perry is BACK!

The pop star returns today with her first official single since 2013’s “Prism” (“Rise” was something else). “Chained To The Rhythm”, produced by Max Martin and written by Sia, is the lead single from Katy’s upcoming yet-untitled fifth studio album, which will arrive in stores undoubtedly before the summer via Capitol Records.

REVIEW: “Chained To The Rhythm” features a vintage-sounding dance-pop production, a nostalgic atmosphere, powerful vocals from Miss Katy, a cool message about self-wondering if living in our own comfortable little world is the best path go walk through or not, as well as featuring a reggae-ish bridge courtesy of Skip Marley.

In all honesty, “Chained To The Rhythm” is very catchy, will no doubt kill it on radio and on the Hot 100, but a part of us truly believe that this is kind of “weak” for a comeback single after so many years of waiting. “Generic” is not the adjective we would use, but just “safe”. Very intriguing for Capitol Records to have allowed “Chained To The Rhythm” to be the lead single. Could it be that Katy was so in love with the message of the song that she fought for it to be her lead? Then there’s hope the second single will be a return to her old pop-flawless self and will be of the liking of everyone.

HIT OR MISS?
