World Premiere: Ariana Grande - “Focus” [Full Audio / Review]

ariana grande focus cover

Are you ready? Ariana Grande premiered her new single “Focus” this Friday morning (October 30th). The trumpet-heavy song, co-written by Ilya Salmanzadeh, Savan Kotecha and Peter Svensson, is the official first single from Ariana’s forthcoming third studio album, rumored to be called “Moonlight”, which will be released later this year via Republic Records.

The first time we heard about “Focus”? I remember very well. It was this summer at the iHeartMedia Summit, when the CEO of Ariana’s’ label spoke to music industry journalists and radio executives about Ari’s new album, and what they could expect from it. At that Summit, he also took the opportunity to reveal the title of the first single. Back then it was known as “Focus On Me”. But as you can see now, Ariana’s decided to shorten the official title. Why? Hopefully one day she explains it!

Best way to describeFocus”? As a hybrid ofProblem” and “Bang Bang”. Is that bad? Not at all! The new single of powerhouse vocalist Ariana Grande will be without a doubt welcomed with open arms by radios, and given its ‘instant’ likability, I’m convinced Ariana’s fans, aka. the Arianators, will be obsessed with “Focus” since the very first listen.

I can tell you’re curious / It’s written on your lips / Go head and talk your sh*t”, sings Ariana in the second verse of “Focu”. No doubt Ariana is trying to convey with this song that she ain’t no little girl no more. She’s experienced heartbreak (Nathan Sykes, Big Sean), and now she knows she won’t let any man mistreat her, and that from now on she will wear the pants in any new relationship. MEOW! All “Focus” indeed on Ariana.
