Directlyrics

UI / UX Designer (Amsterdam / Anywhere)

For the website Directlyrics – visited daily by over 700k music fans – we're looking for an user interface slash user experience designer to tackle the current challenges the site is facing:

  • Page views per visitor is around 1.28. The main, but difficult goal is to continuously increase that by engaging website visitors better.
  • Over 55% of all visitors are using a tablet or smartphone, the site needs to adapt nicely.
  • Improve the current static lyrics text offering.
  • Launch a user login/signup system, which is used for new functionality like creating custom music playlists.

The job consists of working together with a small team in creating a new layout and developing new functionality which addresses the current challenges. Your work consists of wireframing, prototyping, and testing while using the user's feedback to optimize it. The job can be done from a remote location, but needs a commitment of at least 30 hours/week for initially a period of 3 months, commencing as soon as possible.

Perfect Candidate

The perfect candidate for the job is analytical in approaching the current challenges, and creative and independent in resolving them. Primarily you should be an expert in design and interactivity and be intrigued in increasing user engagement. You love pixel perfect and can deliver it. Design that works for online, which means you should know quality CSS and HTML to make it work. Interactivity to tease users and guide them through the site. Your work should be smart, try new things out and isn't bloated in kb size or render time. Photoshop files with dozens of layers are nice, but not appropriate as a deliverable, it has to work in browsers. Responsive design and HTML5 are not buzz words, but a way to make the user experience work.

Bonus if you are skilled in hacking your way through Javascript.

Salary

Given your relevant work experience or education level your salary is between €2,500 and €4,000 a month. Non-Dutch applicants work under a freelance contract.

Interview

If you are interested to work on making a better lyrics site for millions of people, get in touch through yvo at directlyrics.com and send a short introduction of yourself. List some of your relevant experience with examples and point out snippets you are proud of.
