VIDEO: Shakira Performs "Imagine" at Opening Ceremony of 70th Session of UN General Assembly
Colombian superstar Shakira performed a cover of John Lennon’s “Imagine” classic in front of Pope Francis and a large number of world leaders at the opening ceremony of the 70th Session of the UN General Assembly at the UN headquarters in New York City today, September 25th.
The “Can’t Remember To Forget You” singer is no unknown being to the United Nations as she is a hard-working ambassador for UNICEF, so no wonder why she was chosen to perform at today’s General Assembly. Who better to perform at this major event than “one of yours”, right? Also, what better song to sing today than “Imagine”, huh? John Lennon's song has a powerful message about peace and unity that some of the world leaders needs to be reminded of.
Shakira dedicated this performance to Aylan Kurdi, the three-year-old little Syrian boy whose body was found dead on a beach in Turkey.
