Taylor Swift dropped by ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” last night - Thursday, October 23rd - to do an interview and live performance. She discussed her upcoming album “1989” (out next week!) and particularly one from it: "Clean". Jimmy was very interesting in the message of the song. "Is it about personal hygiene?”, he asked Harry Styles’ ex. Later on Thursday’s episode, new POP star Taylor Swift performed at the outdoors stage two tracks from “1989”. First, the lead single and smash hit “Shake It Off”, and second, the first “iTunes Countdown Single” from the album, the 80’s-inspired “Out of the Woods” – which Taylor co-wrote with Jack Antonoff and is inspired by her past relationship with One Direction's Harry.

Now we’ve watched many times Taylor sing “Shake It Off” on TV so I was really more interested in checking her “Out of the Woods” last night. How did she do? Well, just okay to be honest. She used a lot of playback for the song – it is really required at times – but on the parts she sang live she still relied a little too much on the backing track. It's the same thing that happened with the “Shake It Off” performances. The song sounds great in its studio version when Taylor does it live...it just lacks something or simply doesn't translate well live. I guess they're tough songs to sing live? Because clearly Taylor has some great vocals in her. Hopefully she’ll release a ballad as part of the "1989" singles so we can watch again this era a brilliant LIVE performance of hers.
