"Something in the Water" to Become Carrie Underwood's Most Successful Single?

Everyone is loving Carrie Underwood's new single "Something in the Water". Well, everyone except atheists. For the song is about God and baptism.

Besides being the lead single, the touching and powerful country ballad (about how God can improve your life if you accept him in your life) is one of the very few original tracks that will be featured on the American Idol alum’s upcoming first greatest hits album, the aptly titled “Greatest Hits: Decade #1” (out December 9th). For some it may seem too quick to release a greatest hits compilation, but I think having four albums on your catalogue is more than enough to it.

Is "Something in the Water" en route to become one of Carrie’s most successful singles ever? The figures and the positions don’t lie! (either the anticipation for new Carrie music was huge or there's something really special about this song!)

  1. "Something in the Water" sold 125,000 digital copies in its first week.
  2. Carrie has the biggest opening-week sales (for a single) of any female country artist in 2014.
  3. "Something in the Water" is Carrie's best debut sales week for a digital song. "I Told You So" (sold 126,000 downloads during its first week) doesn’t count because it’s originally a Randy Travis track.
  4. The day of the single’s radio release, it impacted on 144 stations! Major support!
  5. "Something in the Water" debuted at #17 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart and it became the highest debut for a solo artist in 2014 and it surpassed Carrie's previous record of #20 with "So Small" in 2007.
  6. "Something in the Water" debuted at #24 on the Hot 100 with no type of promotion, performance or music video to support.

Amazing! Will "Something in the Water" de-throne “Before he Cheats” as Carrie’s most-commercially successful song to date? It’s going to be tough, but I have the feeling Ms. Underwood is going to promote the hell out of this song in the coming weeks. And considering this could be the only single coming out from “Greatest Hits: Decade #1”, Carrie’s going to have a lot of time to try and achieve this feat.
