Single Review: Iggy Azalea - "Switch" featuring Anitta [Audio Included]
You know those songs that you really want to love but you’re disappointed when you realize they’re not giving you all that you’re asking? This seems to be my issue with Iggy Azalea’s new single “Switch”, which features Brazilian pop princess Anitta (“Bang Bang”, “Sim Ou Nao”).
I was really anticipating the song from the teasers (on the music video set) Iggy Azalea had been posting on social media (“Switch” sounded hot and Iggy was SERVING SEX LIFE on set), but now that “Switch” has been released on digital stores and I have heard it in its studio version (the version that will play on radios and the version that actually matters), I’m a tiny tad underwhelmed.
YES, “Switch” can be described as a “hot song”, a “summer song”, “Iggy’s best song since 2014”, and “club-ready”, but I just wish it would HIT HARDER. What do I mean? For instance, the urban-synth production could be better (a remix is immediately required), and someone definitely messed it up with Aniita’s chorus. Whatever vocal filter they used or editing they did on her voice, they screwed it up. Anitta doesn’t sound like her usual self. Where are her steamy/suave vocals? She sounds very robotic, low-quality in here.
Besides, why didn’t she get to sing some lyrics in Portuguese? I know it’s Iggy’s song and English is the language all of her fans have in common, but wouldn’t it have been awesome and unique to hear Anitta doing a bit of her sexy Portuguese singing? I know THAT would have made “Switch” hotter.
Anyhow, what’s the song about? Female empowerment. But let it be Iggy who do the further explaining.

And will “Switch” be representative of the whole new sound of the revamped “Digital Distortion” album? I WISH, but it seems it will not…

Why not have all the songs on your new album kind of sound like "Switch", though? Pop seems to be the way to go for you, Iggs! “Team” didn’t work, and “Mo Bounce” kind of struggled. Ain’t nothing wrong with being a pop rap artist, right?

Afterthought:
I’m going to have to deal with Anitta’s weird vocals in here, dance to this at the club no matter what, and simply try hard to make “Switch” a hit for Iggy (I’ll even request the song to my local radio). We have to let her know that pop is what she should be doing! And what better way to make her get the point than making “Switch” her first true hit in years.
