Single Review: Fifth Harmony - "Down" / *Audio Included!
Ladies and gentlemen, it is here. The new Fifth Harmony single has arrived. It is called "Down", it features rapper Gucci Mane, it is the first single from the female group's forthcoming third studio album, and it was released on digital stores today, June 2nd, via Epic Records.
"Down" follows the same formula as to their 2015 smash hit "Worth It" and their 2016 smash hit "Work From Home". This is an urban pop song with sexy lyrics and a verse from a rapper. And no doubt the song will have an iconic choreography as well!
THE REVIEW
Wow, this is great. The resemblance with “Work from Home” is uncanny (same writers) but I don’t hate, I love. What’s wrong with sounding like Fifth Harmony’s biggest hit yet, right? Nothing! Plus, we already made it clear that if ain’t broke, don’t fix it. These are smart girls.
“Down” is a sensual mid-tempo pop-urban jam, where all four members get to sing equal time (finally!), the theme is about promising to be there for a guy, if the guy promises to be also with them in the good and the bad, and the chorus is a repetitive CANDY I don’t want to ever let go of! Just like “Work from Home”, where the girls repeated the word “work” to the infinite, they’ll do the same in their new single with the word ”down”. And I just don’t know how Fifth Harmony do it, for repetitive choruses usually get annoying, but THEIR repetitive choruses are just too perfect that hearing them over and over makes no one exhausted. I just want to hear it again and sing-along, and do my hand choreography left and right one more time! Gucci Mane makes a decent job in his bridge verse. Loved the rock and roll feel they added to his part with the production switch.
Favorite lyric from “Down”? “'Cause baby, you know how to take that cake” (Normani).
This has “SUMMER HIT” written all over it!

This is the first official song Fifth Harmony record without Camila Cabello, now that she's doing her own solo thing, so the pressure is high for the girls to turn this into a super smash hit. I won't tolerate chit-chatting about Camila being the member that made 5H "sell". The now-quartet have to put these thoughts to rest forever and ever with "Down" now. Everybody: let's buy, buy, buy and stream, stream, stream!
