Selena Gomez’ Emotional Acceptance Speech Was The Best Part of the 2016 AMAs: Watch And Prepare The Tissues!
For the first time in a long the awards and live performances weren’t the highlights of the American Music Awards, for what will be truly remembered from the 2016 edition - held on Sunday night (Nov. 20) - will be Selena Gomez’s emotional acceptance speech of her “Favorite Female Artist – Pop/Rock” award.
Selena pulled a surprise last night - because it had been a very long time since she had done a public appearance like this. She really wanted to be at the AMAs last night, though, and I now I know.
Looking stunning in a red dress and clearly feeling better from her recent anxiety and depression episodes from her never-ending battle with lupus, Selena took to the Microsoft Theater stage to tell the entire world something:
“In 2014, this stage was actually the first time that I was authentically 100 percent honest with all of you. I think it’s safe to say most of you know my life whether I liked it or not. And I had to stop. Because I had everything. And I was absolutely broken inside. I kept it all together enough to where I would never let you down, but I kept it too much together to where I let myself down. / I don’t want to see your bodies on Instagram. I want to see what’s in here. I’m not trying to get validation, nor do I need it anymore. All I can say is I’m so grateful that I have the opportunity to be able to share what I love every day with people that I love. I have to say thank you so much to my fans, because you guys are so damn loyal, and I don’t know what I did to deserve you. But if you are broken, you do not have to stay broken. That’s one thing you should know about me: I care about people. And this is for you.”
Selena may have pulled it together and avoided to shed tears live (although she was clearly on verge to) but I couldn’t. I literally wept throughout her entire speech. She is so brave and strong (and you already know that her next album is going to be amazing and so raw).
