Sam Smith not only launched the pre-order of his much-anticipated second studio album “The Thrill of It All” this Friday morning, he also released the very first countdown single of this era: the song “Pray”, the closing track on the album. “Pray”, of 3 minutes and 43 second of length, is a piano-driven ballad where Sam Smith sings about feeling sad about how everything is going great personally for him but how the world is getting f*cked up. “Don't have no degree, I'm somewhat naïve / I've made it this far on my own / But lately, that sh*t ain't been getting me higher / I lift up my head and the world is on fire”, the British man sings in the opening verse of “Pray”. To make this song even more impactful, there is a church choir that will make “Pray” sound even more grandiose at specific times.
Solid song, and well-thought out lyrics-wise.
