Psy and his bizarre, yet undeniably catchy, K-pop music are back. The South Korean singer’s new studio album titled “Psy 7th Album” (pretty straightforward, huh? Indeed, as the title says, this is Psy’s seventh album) was released worldwide today, November 30th, via YG Entertainment.

Rumor has it Psy plans to release music videos for all of the songs included on this 9-track album in the upcoming days and weeks, but as of today, the ‘spotlight’ seems to be on the song “Daddy”, which appears to be the lead single for the international markets (including the US), as it is the first song from the new Psy album to have gotten the music video treatment (minutes later a video for the song “Napal Baji” premiered), and the song with (in comparison with “Napal Baji”) the most similar sound (high-energy, and the kind of K-pop that would work in the US) to his previous monster hits “Gangnam Style” (2012) and “Gentleman” (2013). “Daddy” features 2NE1 star CL (saw her “Hello Bitches” video?) and it’s sung in both Korean and English. That’s right, Psy only needs a few lyrics in English to make a single of his work overseas (that is, outside South Korea), for ‘the rest’ is done by the infectious electro-pop/K-pop production. With “Daddy”, Psy returns to the music scene with his signature crazy style, and although nobody outside South Korea will be able to understand what he’s saying in Korean, no doubt people will dance like maniacs to “Daddy” in clubs in the US and other Western countries this winter.

psy music video premiere

The official music video for Daddy”, which premiered on Psy’s official YouTube page today, stays rather faithful to the story of the song, where Psy tells how proud he is of his father for having given him such good genes and letting him be the flawless man that he is presently. The high-budget music video opens with Psy receiving his newly-born baby in his arms at the hospital's delivery room and taking him to his house where his grandfather is waiting to meet him. From there on, we’ll get to see lots of crazy things, such as Psy’s son, already a kid, flirting at school with his hot teacher, Psy proving how good he is at ballroom dancing (his style of ballroom dancing that is), or Psy’s old-looking father showing us that being 80 years old doesn’t mean you can’t shake it like a polaroid picture anymore. 2NE1’s CL will appear halfway the video trying to get hot and heavy with Psy out in the streets.

What do you think of the song and video?
