Paloma Faith Debuts Music Video of 'Blurred Lines'-Esque New Single "Can't Rely On You"

Oh no! Why is Paloma Faith selling out? The English singer premiered her brand new single “Can’t Rely On You” on UK radios, as well as debuting the music video for the Pharrell-produced on VEVO today (January 13th).

The 32-year-old Londoner laments feeling jealous of her lover in the funk-soul trackCan’t Rely On You”. The beat is so similar to Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines”. Pharrell clearly tried to disguise it all that he could, but in the end, it was inevitable for the “Blurred Lines” sound to surface. The intro in particular makes you think you’ve played Robin Thicke's song by mistake.

RCA Records knows of the major talent of Paloma Faith and that’s probably why they booked for her studio sessions with Pharrell, which most likely cost a lot of money. But I just don't feel this is the best career path for Paloma. I feel like she's selling-out with "new sound". It looks too "forced". I love her vocal execution of “Can’t Rely On You”, that’s hot, but as I hear the song in full I can’t help to say to myself…”what have you done, Paloma!?”.

Although “Can’t Rely On You” won’t be officially released in the UK, and hit iTunes, until February 23rd, Paloma and RCA are rushing things. The audio has been released, and the music video too. All in the same day!

The music video kicks off with a intro speech narrated by Paloma Faith speaking in Italian. The rest of the scenes are…just confusing. Can’t really understand the plot of the video, but I guess it has something to do with jealousy, disappointment, and hatred. My favourite scene? When Paloma throws a tantrum in the church!

What do you think of the song and video?
