I'm still shaking my head in disbelief that one of my favorite pop songs in 2011 so far, that is, Nicola Robert's ecclectic single "Beat of my Drum" flopped in the UK...only making it at #27 on the charts there...such an explosive, sassy, kinda experimental, pop tune, mixed with Nicola's unique rapping swag, gone to waste...SMH. But for those virginal ears, who just can't assimilate Nicola's art, she's releasing a safer follow-up single, although it is too a very-well crafted and intelligent pop record. Ms Robert's second single is called "Lucky Day" and will be released in the UK on September 18th. The Dragonette-produced single is a such a feel-good record, it's very relaxing although it features some 'naughty lyrics' as what Ms Roberts wants to convey in the song is that...she hopes to GET LUCKY that day, LOLz. So! Fun lyrics, good production and sassy singing by Nicola. I like! Oh, and the 'woah, woah, woah' moment is...a landmark in pop history, hot. As for the "Lucky Day" music video which premiered today (August 12th) via VEVO (watch above), it basically features an unbothered Nicole walking the London streets, making a trillion facial expressions, some hand gestures, and at some point a sassy butt shaking dancing. Overall, nice vid...but the colorful effects were cheap and tacky! Nicola's debut solo album "Cinderella's Eyes" hits UK stores in September.
