New Music: Zedd (feat. Selena Gomez) - "I Want You To Know" [Full Audio / Review]

zedd i want you to know cover

The sooner the better, right? Zedd’s much-anticipated first collaborative track with girlfriend Selena GomezI Want You To Know" leaked online today (Feb. 22) around noon, just a day before its scheduled iTunes worldwide release.

The EDM song is confirmed to be the lead single from the German DJ's forthcoming second studio album - follow-up to 2012's "Clarity" - which will arrive in stores later this year via Interscope Records. May I remind you that as of December 2014 Selena and her new boo Zedd share the same label (didn’t you know she finally quit Disney?).

I Want You To Know" was entirely produced by Zedd (duh) and word has it the song was co-written by both the "Break Free" producer and pop sensation Selena Gomez as the upbeat love song is evidently a work inspired by their real-life relationship.

“I Want You To Know" review

Undoubtedly, this song features one of, if not the best EDM production that Zedd has ever produced. That breakdown is amazing. Although, I’m thinking it will get halved in the official “I Want You To Know" radio edit. It’s just a bit too long for radios, isn’t it?

Having praised the EDM beat, let us focused on Selena’s part, that is, the singing and content of the song.

“I Want You To Know" isn’t that vocally demanding so Selena Gomez surely had an easy time when recording in the studio. Let’s be honest, she isn’t the greatest singer of all time, so having a song that doesn’t really force her to go that high, or produce long notes is the best thing that could happen to her. When she’s in her range, though, she really sounds pretty.

Overall, “I Want You To Know" is a catchy song (love Selena's vocal inflection in the chorus when she sings the "that it's our time" bit), but I was personally thinking it would 'better’ in some way and catchier too. And although Zedd's beat is sick, I don't know why I have the desire to label this song as ‘generic’ and ‘forgettable’. It probably has something to do with the fact that I'm not that crazy about EDM music anymore and not that “I Want You To Know" is a bad song, though.

Hit or Miss?
