New Music: Shawn Mendes - "Something Big" [Full Audio]
Up-and-coming pop singer Shawn Mendes released on Thursday midnight (Nov. 6) his brand new single “Something Big” on iTunes. The upbeat soulful pop record is the lead single from Shawn’s upcoming yet-untitled full-length debut album due in stores in early 2015 via Island Records. This is the young Toronto singer’s second official single of his career after “Life of the Party”, the lead cut from his debut EP released this summer.

“Something Big” song review
Very Ed Sheeran, huh? The fast-pace singing/almost rapping, the acoustic vibe to it, the guitar-driven melody, I mean, this is what Ed Sheeran is doing right now, right? For a second I thought I was hearing “Sing”. Was Shawn listening a lot to “X” when he was writing/recording “Something Big”? We have to ask him! In the Livestream video chat he held with fans minutes before the iTunes launch of the new single on Tuesday night, Shawn told he wrote “Something Big” while on tour with Austin Mahone – and that was early in the summer of 2014 if I’m not mistaken.
This is very different to what he had to offer with “Life of the Party” - I mean this is totally uptempo and not a ballad – Shawn displays great vocals throughout it and the chorus is pretty good. The production – very Ed Sheeran “Sing” – is nice as well. Nothing bad that I can say about this song. “Life of the Party” reached #24 on the Hot 100 and I think “Something Big” will surpass that. It is a better song hands down.
