New Music: Shawn Mendes - "Running Low" [Full Audio + Review]

shawn mendes running low

Today, November 20th, Canadian singer Shawn Mendes releases the re-pack of his debut studio album “Handwritten”, which now has been renamed to “Handwritten: Revisited”. All the major pop singers from Island Records have or will be re-releasing their latest albums this year, so evidently Shawn couldn’t be the exception. He had to join the pack.

What can fans of the “Stitches” star expect from this “Revisited” edition? Well, a few ‘new’ songs, and and live versions of a handful of songs from the original “Handwritten” album. Among the ones that are supposed to be new, the majority really aren’t. For they either leaked long ago or have been performed live by Shawn at recent concerts. The only real new songs are 2. “I Know What You Did Last Summer”, chosen as the lead single from the re-release, and “Running Low”. The latter is the ‘star’ of this blog post, and the one you can stream below!

This new piano-driven ballad titled "Running Low" hears Shawn Mendes telling his newly former girlfriend things like “I know you’ll find someone who gives you the time I didn’t give to you / I’m running low / I’m sorry but I have to go”. A bit hard, huh? This one is a pretty strange track story-wise. Shawn says in it that she had to leave the side of his girlfriend to "go find himself" and he tells her that it's all OK because she'll end up finding someone better than him? What!? I know Shawn wanted to pull his own "Someone Like You" with "Running Low" but I just can't fully understand the story of the song. He doesn't really say the reason for his leaving. And that "I have to find myself" motive is so weak!
