New Music: Maroon 5 - 'Maps' [Full Audio + Review]

maroon 5 maps cover

iHeartRadio premiered the new Maroon 5 single ‘Maps’ at 3am today, June 16th. ‘Maps' is co-written by Benny Blanco, Ryan Tedder and Adam Levine, and it serves as the lead single from Maroon 5’s upcoming fifth album ‘V’, which is scheduled to impact in stores on September 2nd via Interscope Records.

‘V’ and the singles coming from it will have to try to match or even surpass the success attained by Maroon 5’s latest album, the 2012-released ‘Overexposed’, which went on to become one of the band’s most-praised albums, it spawned the major hits 'Payphone' and 'One More Night’, and it opened Maroon 5 the doors to an incredible sold-out world tour. ‘V' better be a worthy successor.

The first single ‘Maps’ premiered on iHeartRadio on Monday morning at 3am, and it will be starting to play on all Top 40 radios (Z100, KIIS FM, etc) in the U.S at 6am and at the top of every hour during the entire day.

On first listen, ‘Maps’ sounds very Maroon 5, and like a track that should have no problems getting excessively played on radio. Yet, this hasn’t hit me on the first listen as 'Payphone' did two years ago. Chorus is GOOD, though (and the reggae-rock production is an intelligent sound for the summer). In any case, anything that’s Ryan Tedder-written I will give multiple chances till I fully love. Plus, you just know whether the track is bad or not, Interscope is going to promote the hell out of it and will make ‘Maps’ a chart-topping smash hit sooner or later. [More info here]
