New Music: Lily Allen - "Air Balloon"

Lily Allen gave BBC Radio 1 permission to premiere her new song “Air Balloon” on Monday, January 13th. The Shellback-produced pop number serves as the second single from the British singer’s forthcoming third studio album. “Air Balloon” will be officially released in the UK on March 2. Listen to the song now, though!

This is so the opposite to first single “Hard Out Here”. And I’m not sure which I like the most! “Hard Out Here” is still my jam. The whole attitude of Lily in that song made it a winner for me. “Air Balloon”, on the contrary, feels more like a proper radio-friendly pop single. Something that shouldn't be normal for Lily (lol). True some of the lyrics are clearly very Lily Allen style. "Did I ever tell you my uncle’s monkey ran away from the zoo?”, sings the mother-of-two in the first verse of the nursery rhyme-sounding song.

Maybe the UK will “Air Balloon” better. “Hard Out Here” only peaked at #9. And that was a complete shocker to me. That song is flaw-less in every way. In any case, here's hoping the super amazing chorus of “Air Balloon”, and the very M.I.A “na na na na” bits entice the UK audience and make this a proper huge hit for Lily.

Hit or Miss?
