New Music: Lana del Rey - "Once Upon A Dream" [Full Audio + Review]

lana del rey once upon a dream artwork cover

So hypnotizing! Lana del Rey sings the theme song of the upcoming Disney movie "Maleficent", starring Angelina Jolie, and hitting theatres on May 30.

As you probably already figured out, Lana’s "Once Upon A Dream" is a cover of the legendary song from 1959’s "Sleeping Beauty". When film producers and director decided "Once Upon A Dream" was to be the theme song of "Maleficent", they began searching for the best possible candidate to make the re-record. In the end, it was Angelina Jolie who convinced them, and hand-picked Lana del Rey to be the one. And I couldn’t imagine someone who could've done it better than her!

So beautiful, hypnotizing and haunting. Lana del Rey was born to sing "Once Upon A Dream". This cover feels only natural. Great vocals and interpretation. The production is the same as the original, as well as the lyrics. Lana's song may be over 3 minutes long, but the lyrics are really short. Just one verse, and one hook that are repeated. Some say on the Internet that perhaps Lana could write extra lyrics to the original "Once Upon A Dream" but that would have been plain sacrilege. This is completely fine!
