New Music: La Roux - 'Uptight Downtown' [Premiere]
La Roux is back! (for real this time). Earlier
this month the British synth-pop band La Roux (led by the ethereal Elly
Jackson), premiered the buzz single ‘Let Me Down Gently’, which everyone
thought to be their first single, but it turned out it wasn’t. ‘Uptight Downtown’ is the real first single from La Roux’s much-anticipated second
studio album ‘Trouble In Paradise’, hitting stores on July 7th.
‘Uptight Downtown’ premiered on Zane Lowe's
show on BBC Radio 1 on May 27th, 2014. Zane gave La Roux's new single the
status of 'Hottest Record’.
The Elly Jackson and Ben Langmaid co-written ‘Uptight Downtown’ definitely sounds more radio-friendly than ‘Let Me Down Gently’. It
features Nile Rodgers-inspired guitars, a slinky bass and just your enough dose
of Elly Jackson’s layered vocals. Summing up, ‘Uptight Downtown’ is a pop gem!
Elly warns that ‘the temperature is rising’ in the chorus of the song, and we
get why… ‘cause the song is too hot!
‘Uptight Downtown’ is officially released in the UK on June 29th.
