New Music: Kendrick Lamar - "King Kunta" [Full Audio / Review]

kendrick lamar king kunta

A new Kendrick Lamar track from his forthcoming album “To Pimp a Butterfly” (March 23) has leaked. It’s the song whose title we've known for a long time; “King Kunta”. This is Kendrick’s tribute to the 18th century slave from Virginia Kunta Kinte whose right foot was cut off because of his attempts to escape his plantation and whose story was portrayed in the "Roots: The Saga of an American Family” novel by Alex Haley. “King Kunta” is also an empowering hip-hop anthem that is used by Kendrick to tell his story of going from the hood to being one of America’s most-respected rappers and have millions of fans and dollars. But it call also be used as self-empowerment by anyone listening.

King Kunta” is track no. 3 on “To Pimp a Butterfly”, should the tracklist leaked turns out to be real, although The Fader is saying the contrary.

Review: It’s such a strange record but so good. I mean, I was not loving it on the first listen but after a few more I'm kind of obsessed with it now. It's definitely a JAM and a BOP. I'm with you, Kendrick. WE WANT THE FUNK!
